Benchmark International Successfully Facilitated the Transaction Between T&RS Engineering Ltd and Rendel Ltd

July 18, 2023

Benchmark International is pleased to announce the acquisition of Doncaster-based T&RS Engineering by Rendel, subsidiary of French-owned Ingerop Group.

T&RS Engineering is a rail engineering consultancy, specialising in the maintenance and overhaul of a full range of traction and rolling stock for train operating companies, rolling stock leasing companies, and rail service providers.

Established for over 180 years, Rendel is a multidisciplinary, international engineering design consultancy that provides services to contractors, clients, and on major engineering and construction projects worldwide.

It has completed more than 6,000 assignments throughout the Americas, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia and Australia. Recent and ongoing projects include HS2 Colne Valley Viaduct and Chiltern Tunnel Shafts Stages 1 and 2; Suburban Rail Loop, Melbourne, Australia; Hinkley Point C; and Eurotunnel.

Richard Poulton, managing director at T&RS Engineering, said: "T&RS Engineering has already built a solid reputation in the UK rail industry for delivery of our key workstreams and our flexible, reliable, and pragmatic approach to each project. From the first meeting with Rendel we could easily visualise how T&RS Engineering could fit into the Ingerop Group and how our services complement each other’s.

"We are looking forward to working with Rendel and the Ingerop Group to grow, increase our service offering to our current market and expand our services outside of the UK."

Rendel managing director, Vardaman Jones, said: "T&RS Engineering is a client-focused business, like Rendel and Ingerop, and the cultural synergies that our companies share will enhance the offering to our clients. We are very excited about the opportunities that will arise from this purchase.

"Rendel and Ingerop will be looking to T&RS Engineering to grow and extend its reach in the rail and transportation business in the UK, Australia and in other markets where the group is present."

Philippe-André Hanna, Ingerop group transport director, added: "T&RS Engineering is a new strong asset for Ingerop's transport sector. Ingerop has built up, throughout the years, an excellent footprint in transport infrastructure, stations and depots. This has been achieved in recent years by a strong development in rail systems (electrification, signalling, reliability and safety) and rail systems integration in Spain, France, and Canada.

"T&RS Engineering brings one more building block to the excellence of our engineering capability with its skills in rolling stock maintenance and engineering. We expect many synergies with the rest of group and within a very short time frame. Welcome to all the employees of T&RS."
